Entrepreneurs Growing Your Team and Your Business: Think Ahead! | discoveryourpowerteam.com

Growing your team and your business: Hire today with a view of tomorrow

You’ve come to the realization that you need to grow your team, so you can focus on business growth and revenue generation.  When identifying who you need to add to your team, first start by outlining your vision for your business.

.

It is important the people you bring onboard are not only those who will be able to help you now, but also those will be able to grow with you, as you and your business grows.

.

For example, if you require administrative help today, you will look at hiring a virtual assitant (VA).  For the most part, the individuals and skill sets you require from your team when running a a startup business are not the same as those required for running a $50,000, $250,000 or $750,000 business.

.

Today, you may need someone to do the basic administrative work, but tomorrow, as your business grows, you will also require invididuals with leadership skills.  Eventually, you will be seeking individuals who can take on the total management of key aspects of your business (product launches, affiliate marketing, event planning, the day-to-day running of your business, etc.). These roles definitely require different skillsets.

.

So, when hiring your virtual assistant, even if what you require today is someone with basic administrative skills to manage your calendar, handle customer service, etc., also take the time to inquire about their business aspirations, their experience in working with expanding businesses and interview for the following key skills:

  • project management
  • leadership
  • decision making
  • ability to take initiative
  • people management
  • problem solving

.

A word of caution, someone who is marketing her skills as an administrative VA will charge less per hour than an individual who is looking to work in an Online Business Manager (OBM) role.  I am not suggesting that you hire an OBM, pay them an OBM rate and have them do administrative VA tasks.

.

Many administrative VAs have leadership abilities, are interested in taking on a management role and have previous experience leading projects and teams.  As you are interviewing, seek out these individuals who have the ability and interest in growing along side your business.  Look for people with potential.

.

Hire your VA for the administrative tasks, at the VA rate of pay.  As your relationship develops and your business grows, you may see an opportunity to offer her a leadership role in your business, and of course compensate her accordingly!

.

Finding the person you need now, who can grow with you into tomorrow will not only save your time, energy and money, but get you well on your way to building the team that will help you live your true destiny!

.
